The UAE has joined the Madrid System for international registration of Trademarks

30.09.2021
The World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO) has announced that the the United Arab Eemirates has joined the Madrid Protocol, and it will come into force on 28 December 2021.  With this, the UAE becomes part of the international trademark registration system. The International system allows an applicant, with the intermediation of the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO), to secure the protection of a trade mark in the UAE and other member states, without having to file national trademarks or hire local agents. This reduces costs and the administrative burden for international applicants and in that way enables them to more easily export their goods and services abroad and expand their business. We are available to assist our clients with securing trademark protection in the UAE and elsewhere. Contact our team for expert advice.
