After Ratifying the UPC agreement earlier this year, as of September 1 2024, Romania has become the 18th country in which the European unitary patent will take effect.
The European unitary patent system allows a single European patent to have uniform effect in participating EU member states, instead of having to be validated in each individual country. This reduces the costs and administrative burden for the patenting of new technologies in Europe. With the adoption of the unitary patent, Romania becomes part of a more comprehensive European patent framework, and will now be a more accessible territory for patent protection.
Dr. Emil Benatov and Partners has many years of experience with securing European patents for our clients, and we remain available to assist with the protection of new technologies in Europe and beyond.
